I've never been good at following rules. Let's see if I can do this correctly.

My novel is a man's man book, I suppose, but the target audience would be any of the disenfranchised--the young, jaded, and cool, those of us who still read for more than formulaic plots and staid characters, who look to literature for the bigger meanings. I used the underworld setting of noir (dirty streets, crooked cops, prostitutes, the dying dreams of the dreamers, etc.) and infused in the work my love of Salinger and Kerouac, while never departing from the Hemingway tough guy school. Or at least I tried. Some say that despite my rugged good looks and ability to bench press small cars that I am a poet at heart. I hope not. It would hurt my feelings.

The novel is just over 60,000 words.

*Ed Note: This novel was eventually picked up by the same agency that handles my memoir. Sad to say, it is fairing no better in its search for a publisher. Which is pretty fucked. Once you get the agent, you think you're on your way. I am slowly realizing that writing is the ultimate carrot on the rail, and I am an old greyhound running out of time...
